Amit Singh Only Virginia Congressional Candidate to Sign Pledge

Arlington, Virginia — Earlier this week Amit Singh, Congressional Candidate for Virginia's 8th District, signed the "Earmark Reform Pledge," distributed by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste. The pledge states that candidates will "Support commonsense reforms of how Congress spends taxpayer dollars." Singh is currently the only Congressional candidate in the state of Virginia to sign the pledge.

"I signed the pledge because I felt it represented many of the same reasons I decided to run for Congress," said Singh. "I believe in open government and responsible spending, and I want to provide that same leadership to the people of Northern Virginia."

By signing the Earmark Reform Pledge, candidates agree to adhere to 10 provisions, including supporting legislation that would end the linkage between campaign contributions and earmarks. The Pledge and the list of those who have signed it can be found here.

Amit Singh is currently in a race for his party's nomination and must win a June 10th primary before he can challenge incumbent Jim Moran in November. Singh believes his straightforward speaking style and fresh approach to government is a message which resonates with many voters in Northern Virginia.

"Many people in Northern Virginia are simply tired of the same candidates giving the same typical answers," Singh stated. "I believe we need to elect candidates who see they are responsible to the people of their district and not the other way around."

The Amit Singh Campaign received a boost last week when a supporter meet and greet was attended by more than 60 people and raised over $9,000 in one night.

"Amit Singh has proven he can raise money, relate to voters, and go beyond what people have typically gotten from their elected leaders," said Steve Bierfeldt, Singh's Campaign Manager. "As the only Congressional Candidate in the state of Virginia to sign the pledge, it really speaks to Amit Singh's focus of limited government and fiscal responsibility.
