College Students Rally around Amit Singh
Arlington, Virginia – On April 15, the George Mason University (GMU) College Republicans hosted the first debate between the candidates for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District, Amit Singh and Mark Ellmore.
"I really appreciated the chance George Mason University and the GMU College Republicans gave me to share my vision for the future and address issues of particular interest to the future leaders of our nation," said Amit Singh.
The GMU College Republicans hosted the debate, hoping to give students insight into, and a chance to get directly involved in, the political process.
"The debate was a great success. I was really encouraged to see how motivated the attendees and my fellow College Republicans were to get involved in politics after hearing the two debate," GMU College Republican Chair, Monica Block. "I saw a lot of my fellow CRs signing up to volunteer with the Amit Singh campaign and taking his signs and other materials so they can play a part in electing Republican candidates throughout Virginia."
Moderator and College Republican Federation of Virginia Chair, Adam Bitely, was also encouraged by the approach taken by the candidates and the serious manner in which the audience evaluated their answers. "It was a pleasure to moderate the debate between Mr. Ellmore and Mr. Singh. It appeared to be an informative experience for all in the audience."
Bitely also noted the different reactions of many in the audience during the debate. "From my vantage point, I found the reactions of the audience [to the two candidates] to be very interesting."
